To put it briefly, a snacks company from Finland approached me three years ago to create illustrations for their dried fruits and nuts packaging. They planned to sell the products in supermarkets throughout Finland and wanted to revamp their branding entirely.

Initially, I was intimidated but excited by the opportunity. After calming down and taking a deep breath, I reminded myself that this was the moment I had been working towards. For years, I had practiced my craft and honed my skills on imaginary projects, working late into the night after my day job in customer support. It had been a challenging journey, but my boyfriend, a freelance professional developer, had offered invaluable business advice.

Clear communication and managing expectations with the client helped ensure success.

The snack company was looking for illustrations to promote an active lifestyle and the health benefits of their products, which they called “Good Habit.” They were impressed with my illustrations featuring muscular-looking characters, and I was thrilled to work with a client from my own dream niche.

The client provided me with the dieline and allowed me the creative freedom to determine the best color palette and branding approach. To ensure a smooth process, I began by outlining my plan and submitting it for review before proceeding with the Sketch and coloring stages.

Clear communication and managing expectations with the client helped ensure success. Through this project, I discovered the importance of selecting the right illustration style to fit the packaging design, prompting me to continue learning about the technical aspects of this field.
